The collection

Currently, the permanent collection of the Ethnographic Museum of La Gomera is made up of several collections, almost all of which are on display in its rooms. Of these, the “Virgilio Brito” collection is the one that represents the largest percentage of the total volume of the museum’s holdings.

The acquisition of this collection was financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, which passed to the management of the Cabildo Insular de La Gomera on the 2nd of September 2004. The rest of the collections that make up the museum’s holdings have been donated by private individuals – from the opening of the centre until very recently – who have thus decided to collaborate with the conservation of the island’s ethnographic heritage.
